der allbekannte Eis- und Kohlenhändler, wurde am 19. Juni 1850 in Syracuse geboren und hat immer daselbst gewohnt. In seiner Jugend besuchte er die öffentlichen Schulen und begann dann seine geschäftliche Carriere, mit grossem Erfolg, sodass er gegenwärtig zu den erfolgreichsten und unternehmendsten Geschäftsleuten gezählt werden muss. Lange Jahre hindurch betrieb er ausschliesslich das Eisgeschäft, sowohl im Gross- wie Klein-Verkauf, bis er in diesem Jahre sich auch auf den Kohlenhandel verlegte. Seine Geschäfts-Methoden und allbekannte Energie lassen es als ausgemachte Sache gelten, dass er auch in diesem Geschäftszweig den Erfolg aufzuweisen haben wird, welchen Ehrlichkeit, Energie und Umsicht verdienen. In politischer Hinsicht hat er mehrfache Beweise des Vertrauens seiner Mitbürger erhalten. Vom Jahre ’78 an diente er 5 Jahre lang als Feuerwehr-Commissär; in den Jahren 1884-86 als Stadtrath der 2. Ward, und Vorsitzer verschiedener wichtiger Komiteen. Von 1892-97 diente er als Polizei-Commissär. Während des Bürgerkriegs diente er im 101. Regiment. [page 278]
Charles Listman, the well-known ice and coal dealer, was born on the 19th of June 1850 in Syracuse and has always lived here. In his youth he attended the public schools and began his commercial career, with such large success that he is presently among our most successful and most enterprising businessmen. For many years he operated exclusively as an ice dealer, both in large and small sales, until he moved this year into the coal trade as well. His business practices and notorious energy make it a sure thing he will succeed in this branch as well, as his honesty, industry, and circumspection have already been proven. In the political arena he has received repeated proof of the confidence of his fellow citizens. From 1878 he served for five years as Fire Commissioner; in the years 1884-86 as City Councilman of the 2nd Ward, and chairman of various important committees. From 1892-97 he served as Police Commissioner. During the Civil War he served in the 101st Regiment.
