geboren am 27. Feb. 1855 zu Thann im Ober-Elsass, besuchte bis zu seinem 11. Lebensjahre die heimathliche Volksschule und wanderte im Frühjahre 1866 mit seinen Eltern nach Amerika aus, wo sie zuerst in Utica, N. Y., zwei Jahre, und dann in Chittenango, Madison Co., N. Y., zehn Jahre wohnten. Im Jahre 1876 ging die Familie nach der alten Heimath zurück und Vater und Sohn etablirten ein Geschäft, das sie jedoch nur 1 Jahr lang betrieben. In 1877 kehrten sie wieder nach Chittenango zurück und Herr Fischer begann seine Studien in der Academie und Hochschule von Chittenango, besuchte dann die Universitäten von Colgate, Syracuse und Harvard. Eine Zeitlang war er Prinzipal der Fulton Hochschule und dann Lehrer der modernen Sprachen in der Syracuse Universität, von 1886-1892. Inzwischen entschied er sich für den ärztlichen Beruf, absolvirte die hiesige medizinische Schule und ist seit 1895 practizirender Arzt mit Office in No. 806 Butternutstrasse. Nach Syracuse kam er im Jahre 1881 und hat während des Sommers 1886 ausgedehnte Reisen und Studien in Frankreich, Holland und Deutschland gemacht. Den Sommer 1892 verbrachte er Studien halber in Paris. Herr Fischer ist ein hochgebildeter Mann und tüchtiger Arzt, bekannt und beliebt unter den hiesigen Deutschen, zu welchen er sich zählt. Doctor of Medicine Joseph T. D. Fischer, born 27 February 1855 in Thann in Upper-Alsace, attended the local area elementary school until the age of his eleventh year, and then emigrated in the spring of 1866 with his parents to America, where they lived first in Utica, New York for two years, and then in Chittenango, Madison County, New York for ten years. In the year 1876 the family returned to the old homeland and father and son established a business which operated for only one year. In 1877 they returned once more to Chittenango and Mr. Fischer began his studies at the Academy and high school of Chittenango, and then at the universities of Colgate, Syracuse, and Harvard. For a while he was the Principal of Fulton High School and then a teacher of modern languages at Syracuse University, from 1886 to 1892. In the meantime he decided to enter the medical profession, [took advantage of?] the local medical school, and since 1895 has been a practicing physician with an office at 806 Butternut Street. He came to Syracuse in 1881 and during the summer of 1886 did extensive travel and study in France, Holland, and Germany. In the summer of 1892 he spent half his time studying in Paris. Mr. Fisher is well-known and popular as a highly educated man and an efficient physician among the local Germans, with whom he ranks himself.
