der weit und breit und rühmlichst bekannte Versicherungs- u. Grundeigenthumsagent und langjährige Supervisor der 12. Ward, wurde am 20. Juni 1853 in der Stadt New York geboren. Sein Vater war der so wohl bekannte und geachtete Wilhelm Dopffel sr., welcher im Jahre 1878 starb. Im Jahre 1855 verzog die Familie nach Syracuse, wo Herr Dopffel seitdem stets gewohnt hat. Nach beendigtem Schulbesuch wurde er zuerst Telegraphist, betrieb dann ein eigenes Geschäft in Herren-Ausstattungswaaren und übernahm nach seines Vaters Tode das von diesem gegründete Versicherungs-Geschäft, das er seitdem mit grossem Frfolg [sic?] weitergeführt hat. Ausserdem ist er Theilhaber der Syracuse Pottery Co., in Gemeinschaft mit Herrn Breitschwerth, dem Supervisor der 16. Ward. Herr Dopffel ist seines leutseligen Wesens wegen allgemein bekannt und in geselligen Kreisen ungemein beliebt. Aber ganz besonders scheint er ein politisicher Liebling zu sein. Bereits viermal (1894-1897) haben ihn die Wähler der 12. Ward mit dem Amt des Supervisors betraut und jedesmal mit so überwältigender Mehrheit, dass darin der Ausdruck unbegrenzten Vertrauens seitens seiner Mitbürger gesehen werden muss. Unter solchen Umständen wird es niemanden wundern, wenn die Zukunft ihm noch manche und grosse Ueberraschungen bringen wird in Gestalt von Vertrauens-Aemtern höherer Art. Er ist ein enthusiastischer Freund aller Logen und gehört zu einer grossen Anzahl derselben, z.B.: Turnverein, Liederkranz, Pythias-Ritter, D. O. Harugari, Deutscher Lebensversicherungsverein, A. O. U. W., Orden der Elks, des Freimauerer-Ordens und anderen. Herr Dopffel verheirathete sich mit Fräulein Johanna Wittneben und hat 4 Kinder. His father was the well-known and respected Wilhelm Dopffel, Sr., who died in 1878. In the year 1855 the family moved to Syracuse, where Mr. Dopffel has since always lived. After completing his schooling he was at first a telegraphist, then operated his own gentlemen's apparel business[?], then assumed following the death of his father the insurance business he had created, which since then has greatly developed[?]. Already the voters have entrusted him four times (1894-1897) with the office of Supervisor, each time with so overpowering a majority as to express therein the unlimited confidence of his fellow citizens. Under such circumstances no one will be surprised if the future brings still larger surprises in the shape of higher public office. He is an enthusiastic friend of all organizations and belongs to many, including the Turnverein, the Liederkranz, Knights of Pythias, the Order of the Harugari, the German Life Insurance Association, the A. O. U. W., the Order of the Elks, the Freemasons, and others. Mr. Dopffel is married to the former Miss Johanna Wittneben and has four children. He lives in his respective Building [i.e. the Dopffel Building?], No. 401 North Salina Street.
