Alexander Dissel

wurde am 27. Juli 1813 in Nordkirchen in Westfalen geboren. Nachdem er die deutschen Parochial-Schulen in seiner Heimath durchgemacht hatte, erlernte er das Schneiderhandwerk und brachte es in seinem Beruf zu der grössten Vollkommenheit. Im Jahre 1853 wanderte er nach Amerika aus, liess sich zunächst in Utica [New York] nieder bis er im Jahre 1855 nach Syracuse übersiedelte, wo er lange Jahre als Vormann für die Firma A. C. Yates and Co. thätig war und sehr viel zum Aufbau dieses grösstentheils seinem verstorbenen Sohne Theodor gehörigen Riesengeschäftes beitrug. Herr Dissel, welcher am 1. August 1892 starb, gehört zu den prominentesten deutschen Pioniren und erfreute sich allerseits der grössten Achtung und Beliebtheit. Er war mit Therese Aufembruch verheirathet und hinterliess 7 Kinder, welche alle in Syracuse leben, ausgenommen der verstorbene Sohn Theodor und der noch jetzt in Philadelphia wohnhafte Sohn Karl. Alexander Dissel was born 27 July 1813 in Nordkirchen in Westfalen. After he had gone through the German parochial schools in his hometown area, he learned the trade of hand-tailoring and brought his skills to the level of perfection in that occupation. In the year 1853 he emigrated to America, going first to Utica, then by the year 1855 settling in Syracuse, where he was for many years foreman [? or "advance man"?] of the firm of A. C. Yates and Company, and contributed a large part in setting up the huge business of his deceased son, Theodor. [?] Mr. Dissel, who died 1 August 1892, was among the most prominent German pioneers and enjoyed widespread renown and popularity. He was married to Therese Aufembruch and left seven children, all of whom live in Syracuse, excepting his deceased son, Theodor, and a son, Karl, residing in Philadelphia.
