William J. Bellen
welcher den ersten District von Onondaga in der Staats-Assembly vertritt, ist der ältest Sohn von John und Catherine Hollowell Bellen. Er wurde am 26. November 1856 in Rome, N. Y., geboren und kam in 1858 mit seinen Eltern nach Onondaga County, wo sie zuerst in Jamesville wohnten. Herr Bellen erhielt seine Schulbildung in der öffentlichen Schule daselbst und trat, 19 Jahre alt, als Lehrling in die Druckerei des Johnstown, N. Y. “Journal”. Er wurde bald Reporter und zeigte grosse Fähigkeit als Journalist. In 1875 verzog die Familie nach Baldwinsville und hier widmete Herr Bellen sich dem Rechtsstudium in den Kanzleien von Georg Hall und F. A. Marvin. 1885 wurde er als Rechtsanwalt zugelassen und erfreut sich einer ausgezeichneten Praxis. 1862 verheirathete er sich mit Fräulein Mary L. Mack von Syracuse. In 1896 wurde er in seinem District einstimmig für die Assembly nominirt und nach einem heissen Wahlkampf mit einer Majorität von 166 Stimmen erwählt und wird aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach die Nomination für den 1898’er Termin wieder erhalten. He was born on the 26th of November 1856 in Rome, New York, and came in 1858 with his parents to Onondaga County, where they first lived in Jamesville. Mr. Bellen received his education in the public school there and, at the age of 19 years, entered into an apprenticeship at the printing office of the Johnstown, New York "Journal." He soon became a reporter and showed great ability as a journalist. In 1875 the family moved to Baldwinsville and here Mr. Bellen dedicated himself to law studies in the offices of Georg Hall and F. A. Marvin. In 1885 he was certified as an attorney, and enjoys an excellent practice. In 1862 he married Miss Mary L. Mack of Syracuse. In 1896 he was unanimously nominated in his district for the Assembly, and after a hot campaign, was elected with a majority of 166 votes, and will in all probability receive the nomination for the 1898 term as well. In the Assembly session of 1897, Mr. Bellen served on the following committees: insurance, charitable institutions and religious corporations, and Indian affairs.
