Anton Aman
wurde in Krumbach, Amt Mösskirch, im Grossherzogthum Baden geboren, besuchte die Dorfschule und erlernte dann sein Handwerk als Zimmermann. Im Jahre 1853 kam er nach Amerika und wohnte zuerst auf Staten Island, bis er im Jahre 1854 nach Syracuse kam, wo er seitdem beständig gewohnt hat. Er arbeitete als Bauschreiner 38 Jahre lang für den bekannten Contraktor Amos Mason, und ist jetzt selbst Contraktor. Diente 7 Jahre in der Miliz (Lafayette Grenadiere), war Mitglied der freiwilligen Feuerwehr (Haken- und Leiter-Compagnie), seit 1855 Mitglied des Turnvereins, gehört zu den Odd Fellows, Harugari, Foresters, Knights of Labor und der Carpenter Union. Durch unermüdlichen Fleiss, unbeugsame Ehrenhaftigkeit und ungewöhnliche Umsicht hat er sich zu einer unabhängigen Lebensstellung emporgeschwungen und geniesst allseitiges Vertrauen. Als Mitglied des Turnvereins war er besonders thätig, wie im geschichtlichen Theil hervorgehoben ist. Als Zeichen des Vertrauens seiner Mitbürger diente er 3 Termine als Supervisor der 2. Ward, und 2 Jahre für die 16. Ward. Er ist verheirathet mit Frl. Barbara Milbaier und hat noch 9 Kinder, während 5 andere gestorben sind. Er wohnt No. 805 Parkstrasse. [pages 252-253]

By tireless diligence, uncompromising honor, and unusual circumspection he raised himself to an independent position in life and enjoys universal esteem. As a member of the Turn Verein he has been particularly active, as has been described in the historical section [of this book]. As a sign of the confidence placed in him by his fellow citizens, he served 3 terms as Supervisor of the 2nd Ward, and 2 years for the 16th Ward. He married Miss Barbara Milbaier and still has 9 children, while 5 others have died. He lives at No. 805 Park Street.
