Two views of 211 John Street, Syracuse, New York
As it looks today: This was formerly the North Side home of Frederick
and Anna (Kraft) Rexin and their family between the years 1921 and 1957.
Their son, Tony, lived here for most of his boxing career
under the name of "Kid Dyke" (1930-1934).
Previous owners of this 32-foot by 107-foot lot
included Mr. and Mrs. Gustave (Henrietta) Herrmann,
Mr. and Mrs. Gustavis Wagner, and Peter Kappesser and his wife,
he being the last surviving Civil War veteran of Co. B,
149th Infantry in Syracuse (a Medal of Honor recipient,
he died of appendicitis in 1930 at the age of 91).
At the time Fred Rexin died (27 February 1957) he and Anna
owned the property free and clear. In March of that year it was
assessed at $2,400 and as having a market value of $4,500.
The property was described as a lot at 211 John Street
"with an old one-story wood frame one-family dwelling,
containing seven rooms and bath, and an old one-car
wood frame garage."
