Surnames: RITTEL / RITTELL
I'm a descendant of the RITTEL or RITTELL family that appears in Syracuse's West Side (Cayuga Street) in the mid-1800's. I believe they came to Syracuse from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area in Pennsylvania. Early first names were Jacob Rittel, George Rittel, Hubert (aka Herbert) Rittel. There was one Rittel family member that had a Wagon Business in Syracuse called "Davis & Rittel". Later on the Rittels joined with the Hayhoe family and had a confectionary/cigar/newspaper store under the name of George F. Rittel.
I'd like to correspond with and share information with anyone else researching these families. I'd really like to find exactly when this RITTEL/RITTELL family came to the United States and what ships they sailed on as they emigrated from the Coblenz (Koblenz) Germany area. There is also a family "legend" that there was a castle in Germany by the name "Rittelhoff" (or something sounding like that) that allegedly was still standing after WWII. I'd like to find out where that castle is.

My great-great-grandfather, William Roushe, is listed in the federal census
records for 1880 and 1900 as living in Syracuse. He was born in Germany in
August of 1846 and emigrated to the U. S. in 1851. Both census listings
show him employed as a fireman. His wife Elizabeth (I don't know her birth
surname) was born somewhere in New York in May of 1850 and they were
married in 1869. They had 9 children: Abraham, born in 1871; E. Margaret,
1874; Catherine (my great-grandmother, who married Albert Graham), Oct.
1876; Peter, 1878; George W., 1879; John A., 1883; Lucy M., 1886; William,
1888; and Arthur E., 1890. It seems like E. Margaret died before 1900. If
anyone might have more information on this clan, it would be much
appreciated.

Oberamt Tuttlingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, where I live.

Re: Deutschen pp. 93-102: I read the referenced section with great interest
as Christian Rupprecht is my great, great, great-grandfather on my mother's
side. I can remember, as a boy, my grandmother, Amelia Caroline Breman (who
married Oscar William Palmer) telling of the incident of the canal boat being
frozen in the canal and that is why they stayed in Syracuse.
Do you have or can you reference me to additional data on Christian Rupprecht
(DOB, place of birth), how & when they immigrated to America, who he was
married to, etc.). Do you have any information or sources of information
(i.e. websites) on the Grumbach lineage (Elisabeth married Nicholaus Grumbach
and had Col. Nicholas G of Civil War fame and Elizabeth, my maternal great
grandmother) i.e. significant dates & places?
