Surnames: ANDERSAG
Michael Andersag (1799-1864) was an Austrian painter (education in Vienna, Rome
and Munich). In September 1852 he arrived in New York. He lived in Syracuse/N.Y. for
at least some years. In 1862 he joined the 149th N.Y.V. Infantry and was shot in
Georgia 1864. In his testament (Sept. 1862) he "declares, that the paintings of art
left behind for safekeeping with Mr. George Meier, Lodi Str.302, second ward,
Syracuse, should be sold and the money derived therefrom should be divided among
the poor wives and children of the German soldiers now at war."
Since we are trying to reconstruct his life and work, we would be very happy
to hear about paintings in or around Syracuse. Since he has been painting for
several churches in Europe, he might have done the same in the U.S.

ANDERSAG (geboren in Südtirol) zu erforschen. Er ist wahrscheinlich jener
Mann, der in Ihrer "Geschichte der Deutschen in Syracuse und Onondaga County
Nebst Kurzen Biographien von Beamten und hervorragenden Buergern" auf den
Seiten 140-193 erwähnt wird (Regiment 149). Haben Sie vielleicht genauere
Informationen über "Michel Andersag"? Er war auch ein sehr talentierter
Maler.
